From the heart of the Dear Amazon, the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA), the Panamazonian Ecclesiastical Network (REPAM), the Amazonian Bilingual Intercultural Education Network (REIBA) and the Amazonian University Program (PUAM), we join the initiative “A tree for Francisco”: a collective sowing of life in homage to Pope Francis, pastor of the Common Home, prophet of the margins and sower of justice.

This Saturday, April 26, communities, parishes, schools, families and towns are invited to plant a tree—preferably native or fruit-bearing—as a gesture of living memory and commitment to the land, following the example of someone who dedicated his pontificate to caring for the most fragile: nature, indigenous peoples, the poor and peace.

More than a symbol: a prophetic act

Planting a tree may seem like a simple gesture, but in the context of Francis’ legacy, it becomes an act charged with spiritual depth and ethical commitment. The tree represents life, yes, but also resistance, rootedness and that silent fertility that transforms the world from below, as Pope Francis did.

Throughout his ministry, Francis reminded us that true transformation begins with the roots:

Each tree planted in his memory then becomes a living memorial, a way to immortalize his voice and his vision in the sacred soil of our Amazon and the entire planet.

Sow your legacy, care for our future

Pope Francis spoke with passion about the care of the Common Home, denounced the exploitation of the Amazon, raised his voice for the indigenous peoples, and urged us to an integral ecology that unites the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor. Today, in his honor, we sow that dream.

“Francis lived to care. May his memory grow where there is life.”

In this community planting, every prayer, every hand that touches the earth, every sprout that emerges, is a declaration: we continue to believe that another world is possible, and we cultivate it with our own hands.

A simple gesture, a deep memory, a hope that blossoms

To participate in the initiative A tree by Francisco, gather your community and dedicate a moment of prayer for the Earth, for peace and for the legacy of Pope Francis. Then, choose a tree—preferably native or fruit-bearing—and plant it as a living sign of hope, justice and continuity of care for the Common Home. Finally, share this gesture on social networks with the hashtag #ATreeForFrancisco and join this global sowing that honors the memory of a pastor who dedicated his life to the care of all lives.

Thank you Pope Francis

Francis cared about the Earth, humanity, justice and peace. Today, his memory calls us to continue that path, with tenderness, with courage and with commitment. May the tree we plant not only flourish, but inspire new generations to dream, resist and transform.

May the memory of the Pope flourish in every corner where there is hope.

Prayer at the Time of Planting the Tree

Dear Francis of the beloved Amazon,
In the vast corners of the verdant forest,
where the echo of the wind dances with life,
the voice of the river whispers among the trees,
and the soul of the earth is intertwined in harmony.

Your humble steps, as a brother among the poor,
guided us along the path of peace and justice,
where the cry of the forgotten resounds loudly
and hope is woven into every gesture of love.

O Francis, guardian of the most fragile,
your serene smile embraced pain and joy,
in your voice, words became prayer,
and faith was renewed in the simplicity of your gesture.

Brother of nature, master of humility,
we remember you, embraced by Sister Death,
who carries you to the bosom of serene eternity,
where your light shines in the heart of the Amazon.

Francis of hope, pontiff of the poor,
your legacy resonates beyond borders,
in every seed sown in fertile soil
and in every gaze that rises in gratitude.

May your soul rest in the peace of the just,
while the Amazon weaves in its living sap
the memory of the shepherd who loved like Christ,
and in sister death found infinite peace.

May your soul rest in the peace of the just,
while the Amazon weaves in its living sap
the memory of the shepherd who loved like Christ,
and in sister death found infinite peace.

Amen
