Within the framework of the five years of the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA), Mauricio López, Vice President of CEAMA, shared a profound reflection on the meaning of this anniversary and the horizon that opens up.
“Celebrating CEAMA five years is celebrating a seeding process. This Conference is not just a structure, it is a wealth history of the peoples, of the communities, of a Church that is incarnated, interculturalized and makes its way in the Amazon”, he said.
For Mauricio, CEAMA was born from a long synodal journey that had its highest point in the Synod for the Amazon, but which it didn’t stop there:
“It’s a seed that continues to deepen its roots. It recognizes the path taken with REPAM and expands it with new initiatives such as REIBA in intercultural education, PUAM in higher education, among many others that express this ecclesial face in the region.”
The anniversary is also a call to discernment:
“We must ask ourselves, what does this moment in the world, so fragmented, wounded by the climate emergency, by the rupture of global brotherhood, demand of us? CEAMA has the challenge of being a living testimony, to give light from the periphery, as Pope Francis dreams.”
Mauricio concludes that these five years are not a point of arrival, but of renewed commitment:
“CEAMA seeks to be that new thing that serves the life of the Amazonian peoples and can also enlighten the universal Church. Because when the periphery becomes the center, the whole Church breathes hope.”
Five years after its founding, CEAMA reaffirms its vocation: to be a sign of communion, a prophetic voice, and a seed of the Kingdom in the heart of the Amazon.
