With a deep spirit of communion and hope, the 32nd Diocesan Pastoral Assembly of the Diocese of Granada (Colombian Amazon) came to a close. It was a space for encounter, discernment, and projection of the evangelizing journey that this particular Church has been undertaking in the heart of Colombia’s Amazon-Orinoco territory.

For three days, from October 21 to 23, priests, religious men and women, and pastoral agents from different parishes actively participated in a process of reflection on diocesan structures and commissions, sharing meaningful experiences and strengthening the Evangelizing Process of the Particular Church (PEIP).

The pastoral horizon of this meeting looks toward the Eucharistic Year 2026, a time of grace that will be lived as an opportunity to renew faith, communion, and missionary commitment in local communities.

A Church that walks together

The last day of the Assembly was marked by the general presentation of the planning and pastoral commitments for 2026, as well as a formation space for pastoral agents, led by Father Freddy Ochoa, a member of the Community Animation Service (SEDAC).

In his teaching entitled “The Experience of the Kerygma,” Father Ochoa invited participants to rediscover their personal encounter with Christ as the source of all evangelizing action and the key to revitalizing community life.

“The power of evangelization springs from a heart that has encountered the Lord. Only from that encounter can we joyfully proclaim the Gospel and serve our communities with hope,” he said during his presentation.

Walking together toward the Eucharistic Year

In his closing message, Monsignor Jorge Enrique Malpica Bejarano, Bishop of the Diocese of Granada, thanked the clergy, religious communities, and pastoral agents for their commitment and dedication to building an increasingly participatory and missionary Church.

“I sincerely thank all those who have made this Assembly possible.

Let us continue walking together, strengthened by the Eucharist, so that our communities may be a living sign of communion and mission,“ said the prelate.

This concludes a new stage of reflection and pastoral commitment, marking the beginning of spiritual and organizational preparation for the Eucharistic Year 2026, under the diocesan motto: ”Walking together, let us live the Eucharist.”

An ecclesial experience in tune with the Amazonian spirit

The Diocese of Granada, located in the transition region between the Orinoquía and the Colombian Amazon, continues to consolidate its pastoral identity in tune with the dreams of Querida Amazonía and with the call of CEAMA to build a more participatory, fraternal Church committed to the care of our Common Home.

This diocesan journey bears witness to the face of a Church that allows itself to be guided by the Spirit, that discerns communally, and that places the Eucharist at the center of its mission as a source of communion, service, and hope for the peoples.
