As part of the preparations for the 2026 Fraternity Campaign, on January 23 and 24, 2026, the Diocese of Coari held an extensive training session organized by pastoral zones, which brought together more than 100 leaders and pastoral agents from different municipalities of the Diocese.
The meeting explored the theme “Fraternity and Housing” and the motto “He came to dwell among us” (Jn 1:14), promoting a committed reflection on the right to decent housing, in line with the Lenten experience proposed by the campaign at the national level.
The Incarnation and a Church in motion
The training invited participants to contemplate the mystery of the Incarnation as the foundation of pastoral action: God who comes to dwell among his people impels a Church that goes forth, close to the concrete realities of Amazonian families. From this perspective, the 2026 Fraternity Campaign calls for the concrete expression of faith through a commitment to human dignity and the transformation of living conditions, especially with regard to housing.
The reflections emphasized the importance of care, solidarity, respect for the territory, and the defense of the right to housing as expressions of the love of God who walks with his people and listens to the cries of those who live in vulnerable situations.
Formation by area: a synodal journey
The formation day was decentralized, organized into three pastoral areas, encouraging broad participation and the involvement of local communities:
- Area I, corresponding to the municipalities of Coari and Codajás, included the participation of the parishes of Sant’Ana and São Sebastião, Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro, São Pedro, and Nossa Senhora das Graças, with the assistance of Marcela Amazonas in Coari.
- Area II, comprising the municipalities of Anori, Beruri, and Anamã, brought together representatives from the parishes of Inmaculada Concepción, Nuestra Señora de Nazaret, and San Francisco, with the support of Francisco Meireles, coordinator of the Regional Lay Coordination Commission, in Anamã.
- Area III, comprising the municipalities of Manacapuru and Caapiranga, was attended by pastoral agents from the parishes of Nossa Senhora de Nazaré, Cristo Libertador, Santo Afonso, and São Sebastião, with the assistance of Father Alcimar Araújo, in Manacapuru.
An Amazonian Church committed to life
With this training, the Diocese of Coari reaffirms its commitment to an incarnational, synodal, and missionary pastoral ministry that places the dignified life of people and the care of the Amazonian territory at its center. CEAMA recognizes and encourages this process as a concrete expression of the journey of the Amazonian Church, which listens to its communities and responds, from the Gospel, to the social and housing challenges of the region.
