From April 16 to 18, 2026, at the El Progreso Indigenous Reserve, located in Leticia (Amazonas – Colombia), the Magüta Nation International Meeting: Formation of Pastoral Agents took place, an ecclesial experience that brought together participants from the tri-border region of Brazil, Colombia, and Peru, reaffirming the commitment to a Church with an Amazonian face, inculturated and synodal.
The initiative included the participation of members of the Diocese of Alto Solimões (Brazil), the Apostolic Vicariate of San José del Amazonas (Peru), and the Apostolic Vicariate of Leticia (Colombia), promoting formation processes rooted in the spirituality of indigenous peoples and evangelization in dialogue with their own culture.
A gathering in the heart of the jungle
In the heart of the Amazonian territory, where the river and the jungle safeguard the ancestral memory of the peoples, men and women of the Magüta Nation gathered to listen to one another, share experiences, and strengthen their pastoral mission.
Pastoral workers arrived from various communities who have made faith a concrete service, catechesis a living word, and community gathering a way to build hope.
During these days, the experience was marked by the symbol of“rowing together in the same canoe”, an expression that reflects the shared journey between peoples, communities, and the Church to recognize cultural richness, strengthen the roots of identity, and walk together in the evangelizing mission.
The Word of God Incarnate in Culture
One of the central themes of the gathering was biblical and catechetical formation, understood as a Word that is heard, meditated upon, and brought to life among the Magüta people.
The pastoral reflection emphasized that catechesis in the Amazon cannot be imposed from the outside, but must engage in a profound dialogue with the jungle, the river, the symbols, the rhythms of community life, and the ancestral wisdom of the indigenous peoples.
Thus, evangelization becomes a living, intimate, and transformative process, capable of proclaiming the Gospel from the concrete reality of the Amazonian territories.
Tools for sowing the faith in the territory
The gathering also provided an opportunity to share pastoral methodologies and tools to strengthen community life, sowing the faith with creativity and pedagogies born of the territory.
Through simple gestures, mutual listening, and communal discernment, the participants renewed their vocation to service, called to continue animating communities, accompanying processes, and celebrating the faith with profound meaning.
A living Church in the heart of the Amazon
The experience concluded as a hopeful sign of a Church that walks with the indigenous peoples, learns from their wisdom, and recognizes in them a source of spiritual and pastoral renewal.
From the Magüta Nation came a message that encapsulates the spirit of the gathering: “Roots of the jungle, riverbed, Living Word on mission.”
CEAMA celebrates these spaces that strengthen a Samaritan, intercultural Church deeply rooted in the Amazon, where life, faith, and hope continue to spring forth with vigor.
