On September 25 and 26, the Santa María de los Ángeles Parish in Mayoyoque, which belongs to the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Leguízamo-Solano, received a pastoral visit from Monsignor Joaquín Humberto Pinzón, accompanied by Father Ponciano Acosta.

During these days, the parish community experienced various moments of fellowship, prayer, and celebration of the faith in an atmosphere of fraternity and communion. The visit provided an opportunity to closely accompany children, youth, and families, as well as to strengthen the processes of Christian life taking place in this Amazonian region.

One of the central moments was the celebration of the sacraments of Christian initiation, accompanying those who are advancing on their journey of faith and renewing the community’s commitment to formation and spiritual life.

A Church That Walks with the Communities

As part of the pastoral visit, Bishop Joaquín Humberto Pinzón, along with Father Ponciano Acosta and Father Jhon Eduar Orjuela López, pastor of Santa María de los Ángeles, traveled to the village of Las Heliconias.

Upon their arrival, they were welcomed with joy and affection by the community’s residents, who organized a festive gathering to celebrate the presence of the bishop and the priests. The event became an opportunity to share, strengthen community bonds, and experience fraternity rooted in faith.

These gatherings reflect a Church that seeks to be close to communities, to walk alongside them, and to recognize the richness of their lands and their experiences of faith. In Amazonian contexts, pastoral presence takes on special significance, as it involves traveling along roads and rivers, meeting with communities, and accompanying them in their concrete realities.

The pastoral visit to Mayoyoque and Las Heliconias thus allowed for the renewal of bonds of faith, hope, and fraternity, strengthening the Church’s presence and accompaniment in this region of Putumayo.

From the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Leguízamo-Solano, these experiences continue to make visible a Church that is close to the communities, committed to their journey, and called to proclaim the Gospel from within the concrete reality of the Amazonian peoples.
