Within the framework of pastoral accompaniment and strengthening ties with local Churches, the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA) held a virtual meeting with the bishops of the Amazon region of Venezuela, this Thursday, February 20. The main objectives of the meeting were to share relevant information about the Meeting of Bishops of the Amazon, which will be held in August at the Latin American and Caribbean Episcopal Council (CELAM), listen to the consultations and reflections of the bishops, and discuss the Amazonian Rite, its concept, the development process and the next steps to follow.
The meeting was attended by five titular bishops and two emeritus bishops belonging to the six Amazonian dioceses of Venezuela. This meeting space allowed for an open and fraternal dialogue, where pastors shared their experiences, concerns and perspectives regarding the ecclesial and socio-environmental reality of the Amazon region.
In addition to the bishops, Father Ricardo Guillén and José Luis Andrades participated in the meeting, who accompanies the work of CEAMA and the Pan-Amazon Ecclesial Network (REPAM), along with other pastoral processes that seek to respond to the challenges of evangelization and care of the common home in the Amazon.
On behalf of CEAMA, Marcelo Lemos, Executive Secretary, was present; Father Agenor Brighenti, coordinator of the Nucleus of the Amazonian Rite; and Cecilia Barja, responsible for the Management of the Meeting of Bishops.
