In fidelity to the journey of ecclesial listening that began with the Synod for the Amazon (2019) and continues with the Synod of Synodality (2021–2024), theEcclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA)has issued theResolution 006/2025, in which it officially calls itsVI General Assembly, as well as the beginning of the discernment process towards the construction of theSynodal Apostolic Plan (PAS) of day CEAMA.

This itinerary represents a key step in the consolidation of a synodal, missionary Church with an Amazonian face, in deep communion with the time of implementation of the Universal Synod convened by Pope Francis.

Opening of the process: August 20, 2025

The discernment process towards the General Assembly will begin with aonline meeting on August 20, 2025, thus opening a path of communion, participation and mission with all Amazonian territories and peoples.

General Assembly: March 2026

The VI General Assembly of CEAMA will be held from 18 to 21 March 2026, at a location yet to be determined. This will be the culminating moment of this process of community discernment and participatory drafting of the PAS, aimed at responding with evangelical boldness to the territorial, pastoral, and ecological challenges of the region.

A process with a synodal spirit

Between August 2025 and March 2026, a process will be enlivened by territorial consultations, training spaces, collective writing, and listening to the diverse voices present in the Amazon. The process will especially include the participation of Indigenous Peoples, rural communities, youth, women, laity, religious life, and the episcopate, in fidelity to an outward-looking Church.

A reprogramming with a pastoral and strategic vision

The rescheduling of the Assembly responds to various pastoral and strategic reasons, including:

CEAMA thus reaffirms its commitment to building a prophetic, servant, and inculturated Church, capable of responding to the cries of the earth and its peoples.

“The synodal journey cannot be halted: it is urgent to embody the fruits of collective discernment in new structures, transformative processes, and concrete responses,” states the resolution signed by the CEAMA Presidency.
