From September 25 to 28, 2025, more than 400 communicators and journalists from all over Brazil gathered in Manaus (Amazonas) to participate in the 14th Mutirão Brasileiro de Comunicação (Muticom), held under the slogan “Communication and Integral Ecology: Transformation and Fair Sustainability.”

The event, organized by the Archdiocese of Manaus and presided over by Cardinal Leonardo Steiner, was a space for fraternal encounter and discernment, where communicators from different regions of the country shared the conviction that communication is key to social transformation and the defense of our common home.

Communication to transform and care for life

Over the course of the days, the challenges posed by the socio-environmental crisis and the urgency of practicing ethical, critical, and committed communication were explored in depth. Participants reflected on the need to discern what transformation is sought and what communication is necessary to achieve it, especially in a context marked by commercial interests that often threaten truth, justice, and the lives of peoples.

This Muticom was held in a jubilee year: the 10th anniversary of the encyclical Laudato Si’ and the year of the birth of the Savior, on the eve of COP30. In this context, the reflection became a call to communicate the Gospel of Creation with hope and joy, echoing the cry of the Amazonian peoples and of all humanity.

CEAMA in communion with the Church of Brazil

The Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA) was represented by Monsignor Zenildo Lima (Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Manaus and Vice President of CEAMA) and Fernando Rueda (communications coordinator), who accompanied the conference, sharing the vision of communication with an Amazonian face, committed to life, justice, and care for our Common Home.

A collective prayer at the Meeting of the Waters

The Muticom concluded with a deeply symbolic and spiritual moment: on the stage of the Meeting of the Waters of the Negro and Solimões rivers, the communicators raised a common prayer, inspired by the words of Cardinal Steiner and the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi. In unity, they proclaimed:

“Praised be You, my Lord, through all Your creatures.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Wind, through the air, cloudy or serene, and through all weather, through which You give sustenance to Your creatures.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Water, who is very useful, humble, precious, and chaste.

Praised be You, my Lord, through our Sister, Mother Earth, who sustains and governs us, and who produces various fruits with colorful flowers and herbs.”

In this spirit, the participants made concrete commitments as communicators:

The prayer concluded with a plea:

“Sustain us, Lord, on the path of fraternity, justice, love, and peace.”

A mission to communicate hope

The 14th Muticom leaves the Church in Brazil and the Amazon with a renewed commitment: to make the Good News resonate in terms of integral ecology, being communicators who promote life, justice, and fair sustainability.

CEAMA celebrates this experience as a sign of the Spirit that continues to impel the Church to walk together, listen to the cry of the Amazonian peoples, and care for creation as an act of faith and humanity.
