During the 6th General Assembly of CEAMA, held in Bogotá, Jesús Huamán Conisilla, a priest of the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Maldonado, was elected vice president for the 2026–2030 term.
The election took place on Wednesday, March 18, in an atmosphere of synodal discernment, ecclesial communion, and commitment to the peoples of the Amazon.
A vocational journey in the service of the mission
Father Jesús Huamán Conisilla was born on June 16, 1971, in Quillabamba, La Convención Province, in Cusco, Peru. From his youth, he actively participated in pastoral ministries, particularly in the Reginalda Ríos youth group at the parish of Quillabamba, accompanied by Dominican missionaries, and was significantly influenced by the Eucharistic Missionaries of Nazareth.
He entered the San Juan María Vianney Seminary in Puerto Maldonado in March 1992, where he completed his formation until his ordination to the priesthood on August 8, 1999.
His first pastoral assignment was as a formator and bursar at the same seminary, and he subsequently served as parish priest and assistant pastor in various communities of the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Maldonado, both in the Madre de Dios region and in the province of La Convención, in places such as Mazuko, Huyro-Maranura, and Santa Teresa.
Since March 2018, he has been pastor of the Señor de los Milagros parish in Madre de Dios, and currently also serves as pastoral vicar for this area of the vicariate, in addition to coordinating the synodality team. Since 2023, he has been the delegate of the Peruvian clergy to CEAMA.
A Ministry Close to the Amazonian Peoples
Father Huamán is recognized for his pastoral work in territories with a strong indigenous presence and marked by multiple social challenges. His service has been characterized by a concrete closeness to the communities, especially the most vulnerable, accompanying them in their life, faith, and organizational processes.
His ministry reflects a Church incarnate in the territory, which listens, walks, and shares life with the peoples, promoting the proclamation of the Gospel through a commitment to human dignity.
Faith that becomes life and commitment
Throughout his career, he has promoted initiatives that integrate faith with social action, fostering education, solidarity, and the defense of the rights of Amazonian communities.
His witness expresses a missionary spirituality that translates into concrete actions of service, accompaniment, and human promotion.
A service to strengthen Amazonian synodality
His election as vice president of CEAMA strengthens the path toward a synodal Church, where ordained ministries, consecrated life, and the laity walk together in the service of the mission.
Drawing from his experience in Puerto Maldonado, an emblematic region of the Amazon, he will bring a close-up perspective on local realities and the challenges faced by communities in vulnerable contexts.
CEAMA thus continues to consolidate its mission as a space for ecclesial coordination in service to life, justice, and the care of our Common Home, in communion with the local Churches and the Amazonian peoples.
Continuation of the synodal process
Tomorrow, Thursday, March 19, as part of the Assembly, the election of the other members of the vice-presidency will take place, representing religious life, laypeople, and indigenous peoples.
This moment will continue the synodal discernment process that characterizes CEAMA, ensuring diverse and complementary representation that reflects the plural face of the Church in the Amazon and strengthens its evangelizing, prophetic, and life-affirming mission.
