With a deep spirit of communion and discernment, the Diocese of Alto Solimões celebrated the IV Diocesan Assembly of the People of God from November 5 to 9 at the Frei Ciro Diocesan Formation Center, bringing together representatives from parishes, movements, ecclesial communities, and pastoral agents from across the region.

The meeting was a time of listening, prayer, and community dialogue, aimed at evaluating the progress made in recent years and planning the future steps of the evangelizing mission in this Amazonian Church.

Four paths for the pastoral future

After several days of collective work, the Assembly discerned four major pastoral paths that will mark diocesan action in the coming years:

  1. Consolidation of Christian Initiation (CVI) in all parishes, strengthening the formation and maturation of faith from the first proclamation to community life.
  2. Strengthening of Basic Ecclesial Communities (CEB) and the lay ministry, promoting the co-responsibility and protagonism of lay men and women in the life of the Church.
  3. Care for human vulnerabilities and our Common Home, reaffirming the commitment to life, social justice, and integral ecology, in line with the teachings of Pope Francis.
  4. Accompanying youth, creating spaces for formation, encounter, and active participation of young people in ecclesial and social life.

A living Church on the move

The diocesan bishop, Monsignor Adolfo Zon Pereira, emphasized during the closing ceremony that “the Assembly is a sign of a living, participatory, and missionary Church that seeks to walk together, listening to the Holy Spirit and joyfully serving the people of God in Alto Solimões.”

The celebration concluded with the Eucharist on Sunday, November 9, which also marked the end of the Diocesan Jubilee Year for the 115th anniversary of the creation of the Diocese of Alto Solimões.

This synodal process will now continue in each parish, where local assemblies will be held to define concrete actions that embody the proposed pastoral paths.

CEAMA celebrates this testimony of communion and pastoral commitment, which reflects the spirit of the Synod for the Amazon and strengthens a Church that walks with its people, safeguards life, and proclaims the Gospel with hope in the heart of the Amazon.
