On February 5, 2025, at the headquarters of the Episcopal Conference of Colombia in Bogotá, the meeting of the bishops of the Colombian Amazon was held, chaired by Bishop Omar de Jesús Mejía, archbishop of Florencia. During the meeting, fundamental issues for the ecclesial mission in the region were addressed, with the participation of the Pan-Amazon Ecclesial Network (REPAM) and the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA).
The Executive Secretaries of both bodies, Brother João Gutemberg and Marcelo Lemos, accompanied the discussions and presented key aspects of their work. The Executive Secretary of CEAMA extended the invitation to the bishops for the meeting scheduled for August 2025 and presented the progress in the process of the General Framework of the Amazonian Rite.
In this framework, Father Agenor Brighenti participated virtually, enriching the dialogue with his experience and reflections on this ecclesial and synodal process.
During the meeting, the election of Bishop Joselito Carreño as bishop responsible for CEAMA in Colombia was also announced. Likewise, the Executive Secretary of CEAMA was introduced to Mons. Francisco Javier Múnera Correa, president of the Episcopal Conference of Colombia, thus strengthening the ties of cooperation and commitment to the mission in the Amazon.
This space reaffirms the Church’s commitment to synodality and support for Amazonian communities, promoting the defense of life and the protection of the Common Home.
