The Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA) welcomes with great joy the news of the recent appointment of our vice president, Patricia Gualinga Montalvo, as a member of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.

The official announcement was made by the President of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Mr. Bob Rae, on June 16, 2025, following a consultation and selection process of candidates proposed by Indigenous Peoples’ Organizations. Patricia Gualinga will represent the Indigenous peoples of Central America, South America, and the Caribbean on this important advisory body of the United Nations system.

This appointment is a recognition of Patricia Gualinga’s testimony, prophetic voice, and tireless commitment to defending the rights of Indigenous peoples, protecting the Amazon, and caring for our Common Home. Her leadership and experience, both in Ecuador and in continental and global processes, will undoubtedly enrich the work of the Permanent Forum.

At CEAMA, we renew our commitment to continue working alongside the indigenous peoples of the Amazon and celebrate the fact that this appointment strengthens the visibility and participation of Amazonian indigenous women in international decision-making spaces.

Congratulations, dear Patricia! We continue together on this path of hope and justice.
