The Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA) is holding its 6th General Assembly in Bogotá, Colombia, from March 16 to 20, 2026, bringing together delegates from various Amazonian territories and representatives of international ecclesial organizations that accompany the Church’s journey in the region.

The gathering reflects the diversity and richness of the synodal process that the Church has been developing in the Amazon since the 2019 Synod for the Amazon, consolidating a network of communion among local Churches, Amazonian peoples, and ecclesial organizations committed to the defense of life and the care of our Common Home.

Delegations from Amazonian Countries

Five delegates from each episcopal conference of the Antilles, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, and ten delegates from the Brazilian Episcopal Conference are participating in the Assembly, reflecting the vastness of the Amazonian territory.

The composition of the delegations reflects the diversity of vocations and ministries within the Church in the Amazon: lay men and women, priests, bishops, religious men and women, as well as representatives of the Amazonian peoples. This diversity embodies the synodal spirit of CEAMA, where all participate in discernment and the common mission.

In addition to the delegates, the Presidency, advisors, and Executive Secretariat of CEAMA will be present, accompanying the process of reflection, prayer, and dialogue.

A Church Walking in Synodality

As a sign of the ecclesial coordination underpinning this process, representatives of the founding organizations are participating: the Latin American and Caribbean Episcopal Conference (CELAM), the Latin American and Caribbean Confederation of Religious (CLAR), Caritas Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Pan-Amazonian Ecclesial Network (REPAM), along with international aid agencies and Holy See bodies such as the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, the Dicastery for Communication, and the General Secretariat of the Synod.

Likewise, other ecclesial and academic bodies joined in, such as the Conference of Jesuit Provincials of Latin America and the Caribbean (CPAL), the Amazonian Intercultural Bilingual Education Network (REIBA), and the Amazonian University Program (PUAM), thus expressing a broad communion at the service of life and mission in the Amazon.

A space of communion in service to the Amazon

The 6th General Assembly of CEAMA thus becomes a space for encounter among diverse peoples, cultures, and ministries, where the Church continues to deepen the path toward a Church with an Amazonian, intercultural face, committed to the defense of life, peoples, and territories.

During these days, participants will share experiences, discern pastoral challenges, and strengthen CEAMA’s mission in service to the Amazon, a region crucial to the planet’s ecological balance and to the lives of millions of people who inhabit its territories.
