On September 2 and 3, a virtual meeting was held by the Commission that is deepening the development of CEAMA’s synodal apostolic priorities, which launched the work plan and the development of the Instrumentum Laboris, to be presented at the 2026 General Assembly.
The commission is composed of a diversity of vocations and ministries: bishops, priests, religious, laity, and representatives of indigenous peoples, in a sign of the richness of synodality in the Amazon.
In this first session:
- The commission’s work plan was reviewed.
- The main messages of the recent meeting of bishops were shared, with attention to the specific scenarios that challenge CEAMA.
- An initial reflection was held on the purpose and identity of the Conference.
- A dialogue was held on a first synthesis of the consultation being carried out in the particular Churches of the Amazon, identifying possible pastoral priorities for the coming period.
- It was agreed to continue the process with virtual meetings during the coming month with different groups in the Amazon (religious congregations, priests, women, among others), and the possibility of holding face-to-face meetings with indigenous peoples and young people is being considered.
The document being prepared by the commission will be presented with the guidance and approval of the CEAMA Presidency, and will then be reviewed and enriched at the next Assembly, scheduled for March 2026, as part of a broad process of discernment, feedback, and collective construction.
CEAMA is thus taking a significant step in its commitment to respond to the cries of the Amazonian peoples, from a truly synodal, participatory, and missionary path.
