The defense of the Amazon and the strengthening of the communities inhabiting its territories come to life in the documentary “Amazônia Bem Viver: Resilient Communities,” an audiovisual production that gathers experiences, knowledge, and testimonies from traditional peoples committed to caring for the forest and life.

The documentary was produced during the International Meeting of the Amazônia Bem Viver: Resilient Communities Program and includes footage and interviews conducted in the states of Amazonas and Rondônia, Brazil. Through the voices of Amazonian communities, the film showcases ancestral practices of land stewardship, community organization, and resistance against the threats affecting the Amazon.

The initiative highlights how Amazonian peoples continue to be guardians of biodiversity and key players in building sustainable, solidarity-based alternatives that are deeply connected to nature.

The Caritas Brasileira program, together with Caritas Colombia, Caritas Peru, and the Episcopal Commission for Social Action (CEAS), is promoting this initiative with the support of Caritas Germany and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The initiative seeks to strengthen community resilience in the face of rights violations, the consequences of climate change, and the multiple pressures facing Amazonian territories, by promoting processes of coordination, training, and the comprehensive defense of life.

The Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon values such initiatives, which give voice to the peoples of the Amazon and strengthen the commitment of a Church that goes forth, dedicated to the care of our Common Home, socio-environmental justice, and the Good Life of communities.
