The 17th June 2025, the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA) held a virtual meeting with the Bishops of the Colombian Amazon, as part of the process of strengthening synodality in the territory.
The meeting provided an opportunity to share progress, reflections, and priorities around two central themes: the Meeting of Bishops of the Amazon (to be held from August 17 to 20 in Bogotá) and the progress of CEAMA Synodal Apostolic Plan.
During the meeting, the current pastoral challenges in the various regions of the Colombian Amazon were discussed, in a context marked by the climate crisis, the defense of territories, and the rights of Indigenous peoples and local communities. The importance of continuing to consolidate a Church with an Amazonian face, one that is outgoing, close to the people, and committed to the defense of our Common Home was highlighted.
The bishops expressed their commitment to promoting synodal processes in their ecclesial jurisdictions, in line with CEAMA Synodal Apostolic Plan, which proposes renewed lines of pastoral action, born from the path initiated with the Synod for the Amazon and the guidance of Pope Francis.
Likewise, proposals were shared for the Meeting of Bishops of the Amazon, which seeks to be a space for listening, discernment, and joint construction, in response to the signs of the times experienced by the Amazon region.
This meeting strengthened the communion and collaboration between CEAMA and the ecclesiastical jurisdictions of the Colombian Amazon, which plays a key role due to the size of its Amazon region and its cultural and socio-environmental diversity.
The day concluded with a commitment to continue coordinating efforts, forging ecclesial networks, and walking together in the evangelizing mission and in caring for the Amazon as a common good for all humanity.
