The Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA) continues on its path toward the Sixth General Assembly, a decisive moment for the life and mission of the Church with an Amazonian face. Delegates from different territories have already confirmed their participation in this meeting, which will be a sign of communion, discernment, and shared hope.

A motto that marks the horizon

The Assembly will be illuminated by the biblical motto: “I am going to do a new thing, which is sprouting. Don’t you notice it?” (Is 43:19).

This Word guides the assembly process as a time of deep listening and community discernment to recognize the new things that the Lord is bringing forth in the Amazonian Church. It is not only a matter of planning pastoral actions, but of opening our hearts to discover the signs of God in the midst of the peoples, territories, and concrete history of the Amazon.

In a context marked by social, environmental, and cultural challenges, CEAMA wants to be ready to welcome that “new thing” that is already sprouting in communities, in emerging ministries, and in the growing awareness of care for our common home.

A logo with Amazonian identity and synodal strength

The Passion Flower (Passiflora) has been adopted as the central symbol of this Sixth Assembly. The logo expresses the profound identity of CEAMA: a Church rooted in the Amazon, flourishing in diversity and guided by the dynamism of synodality.

Like the passion flower, the Amazonian Church is called to blossom in communion, bear fruits of life, and protect our common home with prophetic courage. The image also evokes the cultural and spiritual richness of the Amazonian peoples, who are essential protagonists in this ecclesial process.

Place and date: Bogotá, a place of continental encounter

The VI General Assembly will be held from March 16 to 20, 2026, in Bogotá, at the headquarters of the Latin American and Caribbean Episcopal Council (CELAM).

The choice of this location underscores the continental dimension of the Amazonian process and the ecclesial articulation that sustains and accompanies the journey of CEAMA. The Amazon does not walk alone: its voice resonates in the Church of Latin America and the Caribbean, strengthening bonds and consolidating a shared mission.

Objectives: discern, approve, and renew

The VI General Assembly will have as its main axes:

It will be a decisive step in a broader ecclesial process that seeks to consolidate an Amazonian Church that is articulated, participatory, prophetic, and at the service of life.

Participation: diversity of peoples and ministries

Five delegates from each episcopal conference of the Antilles, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, and ten delegates from the episcopal conference of Brazil are participating in the Assembly.

The delegates reflect the diversity of vocations and ministries of the Church in the Amazon: lay people, priests, bishops, religious men and women, as well as representatives of the Amazonian peoples. This composition expresses the synodal character of CEAMA, where all walk together in co-responsibility.

The Presidency, Advisors, and Executive Secretariat of the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon will also be present, accompanying and encouraging common discernment.

As a sign of the ecclesial articulation that sustains this process, representatives of the founding organizations will participate: the Latin American and Caribbean Episcopal Council (CELAM), the Latin American and Caribbean Confederation of Religious (CLAR), Caritas Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Pan-Amazonian Ecclesial Network (REPAM), together with international aid agencies and Holy See bodies such as the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, the Dicastery for Communication, and the General Secretariat of the Synod.

Other ecclesial and academic bodies will also join, such as the Conference of Jesuit Provincials of Latin America and the Caribbean (CPAL), the Amazonian Intercultural Bilingual Education Network (REIBA), and the Amazonian University Program (PUAM), thus expressing a broad communion in the service of life and mission in the Amazon.

A journey accompanied by prayer

As part of the preparatory itinerary, CEAMA has proposed a Prayer of Preparation for the Sixth Assembly, invoking the Creator Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit—the protagonist of synodality—so that this process may be a true sign of unity in diversity.

With the protection of Saint Mary, Mother of the Amazon, the Church that walks in the region is ready to recognize the “new thing” that is sprouting, to flourish in communion and bear fruits of justice, reconciliation, and hope.

The Amazon walks toward Bogotá with gratitude for what it has experienced and confidence in what God continues to germinate in its history.

PREPARATORY PRAYER

VI ASSEMBLY OF THE ECCLESIAL CONFERENCE OF THE AMAZON – CEAMA

“I am going to do a new thing, which is already sprouting.

Can’t you see it?” (Isaiah 43:19)

Father Creator,

source of Life, you gave us the Amazon as a gift for us and for all humanity. Open our hearts to welcome the cry of the peoples and of the earth.

As we prepare for the VI Assembly of the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon, strengthen us as a true ecclesial body, capable of recognizing that today you are doing “a new thing that is sprouting.”

Jesus Christ, Beloved Son of the Father,

who walks with our communities and draws near to their history, guide this Assembly so that our paths may be ones of discernment and communion, to sustain the transformation in the evangelizing mission.

May we learn, Lord, to move forward together as a Church with an Amazonian face, to welcome with openness and courage the new thing that is springing up in our midst.

Holy Spirit,

protagonist of synodality, in this synodal Kairos for the Church and for the Amazon region, we ask you to make CEAMA a living sign of unity in diversity.

You, Spirit of reconciliation and hope, encourage us to live fully the synodal spirituality that you have asked of your Church.

Holy Mary, Mother of the Amazon,

accompany us in this process to live the experience of “being synod,” to protect life and our common home.

Amen.
