The Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA) actively participated in the 40th Ordinary General Assembly of the Latin American and Caribbean Episcopal Council (CELAM), held from May 26 to 30 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The presence of CEAMA was represented by its president, Cardinal Pedro Barreto, SJ, who brought the spirit of The Beloved Amazonat the heart of the ecclesial encounter, reaffirming the Church’s commitment to the social, cultural, ecological, and ecclesial dreams expressed by Pope Francis in his post-synodal apostolic exhortation.

During his address, Cardinal Barreto shared the progress and challenges of the process of incarnating the Gospel in the Amazonian territory, emphasizing the importance of a Church with an Amazonian and synodal face, one that journeys alongside indigenous peoples and promotes the integral care of our Common Home. He also highlighted the synergy between CEAMA and CELAM as a sign of the strengthening of an ecclesial network committed to a social transformation inspired by the Gospel and the preferential option for the poor.

The CELAM Assembly, which brought together bishops from across the continent, was a key opportunity to discern together the paths of the Church in Latin America and the Caribbean, in a time marked by listening, synodality, and commitment to the territories and their peoples.

CEAMA’s participation in this forum reaffirms its role as an ecclesial institution committed to transformative pastoral care, in constant dialogue with local realities, and in creative fidelity to the Church’s Magisterium.
