During the Ecclesial Assembly of the Peruvian Amazon, held from January 27 to 29 in Lima – Peru, the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA) officially presented the General Framework of the Amazon Rite. The session was attended by the coordinator of the Amazonian Nucleus, Father Agenor Brigent, and Monsignor Eugenio Coter, who highlighted the historical importance of this moment for the Church in the Amazon.
The General Framework of the Amazon Rite is the result of almost four years of work by a Commission appointed by CEAMA, in response to the decisions of the Synod of the Amazon. This document is based on socio-anthropological, historical-cultural, theological-pastoral, and ritual-juridical references of the Amazonian peoples, with the aim of configuring a Church with an Amazonian face.
The document presented will serve as the basis for the elaboration of the rituals of the Sacraments and Sacramentals, as well as other elements that make up the Amazonian liturgical identity. In a synodal spirit, the text will be sent to the study and consideration of the local Churches, encouraging the active participation of the communities.
CEAMA invites local Churches to organize reflection groups, preferably within the scope of the Diocesan Pastoral Council, integrating representatives of the different states of life and ecclesiastical ministries. The General Framework of the Amazonian Rite is a document under construction and is open to input from Local Churches and Episcopal Conferences.
The Executive Secretariat of CEAMA will be responsible for streamlining this process of listening and exchange, ensuring the systematization of contributions. The evaluations should be sent to the respective Episcopal Conferences, which will compile the responses and send them to CEAMA.
To facilitate this process, a Study and Evaluation Form was made available to guide the registration of contributions. If additional documents are required, all information should be sent to the Episcopal Conferences. A statement will be published soon with the names of those responsible for receiving these compilations.
Local churches are encouraged to participate in this important moment and send their contributions to info@ceama.org.
We trust that the Holy Spirit will guide this process, strengthening our evangelizing mission and consolidating a Synodal Church with an Amazonian face.
