From October 23 to 29, 2025, a delegation from the Presidency of the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA) will make an institutional visit to Rome, with the aim of participating in the Jubilee of Synodal Teams and Participatory Bodies; strengthen ties of communion with Pope Leo XIV, and promote collaboration with the various Dicasteries of the Holy See, within the framework of the synodal process that animates ecclesial life in the Amazon.

During this week of work, the delegation will participate in a series of meetings, dialogues, and celebrations focused on fundamental themes for the ecclesial mission in the Amazon: the formation and knowledge of the peoples, pastoral communication, consecrated life, intercultural education, and processes of liturgical inculturation.

Jubilee of Synodal Teams and Participatory Bodies

From October 24 to 26, the CEAMA delegation will participate in the Jubilee of Synodal Teams and Participation Bodies, held in the Paul VI Hall, together with ecclesial delegations from around the world. This space will allow for the sharing of experiences on synodality, lay co-responsibility, and community life, essential elements in the journey of the Amazonian Church.

Encounters of communion and synodality

Among the planned meetings are encounters with Cardinals Michael Czerny, S.J., Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development; Mario Grech, Secretary General of the Synod; and Luis Antonio Tagle, Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization.

The agenda also includes opportunities for dialogue with the Dicastery for Communication, the Dicastery for Education and Culture, the Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life, and the Dicastery for Consecrated Life, as well as a meeting with Sister Simona Brambilla, M.C., to reflect on the presence of Religious Life in the Amazon and the collaboration between CEAMA and CLAR.

Amazonian presence at the heart of the Church

The visit will include moments of prayer and ecclesial communion, including the Eucharistic celebration at the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, the jubilee pilgrimage and passage through the Holy Door, and the Eucharist presided over by Pope Leo XIV in St. Peter’s Basilica.

The delegation will also pay homage at the tomb of Pope Francis, recalling his legacy in the creation of CEAMA and in promoting the Amazonian synodal journey.

The highlight will be the private audience with Pope Leo XIV on October 29 at the Apostolic Palace, where the CEAMA Presidency will present the progress of the Amazonian ecclesial process and the plans for collaboration with the Holy See in view of the General Assembly of 2026.

Another step on the Amazonian synodal path

This institutional visit reaffirms CEAMA’s vocation to be a bridge of communion between the universal Church and the Church on pilgrimage in the Amazon, promoting a Church with an Amazonian, missionary, and synodal face, in which indigenous peoples, local communities, and consecrated life are protagonists of their own history and hope.

“We want to walk alongside the Pope and the universal Church, sharing the spiritual, cultural, and pastoral richness of the Amazon, and renewing our commitment to care for our Common Home and to proclaim the Gospel of life,” said the CEAMA Presidency when announcing the visit.
